Since angling is a recreational sport that can only be done at water and something that can be enjoyed from the tender age of about six years until old age of 86 years, Eco-Care has decided to use angling as a flagship sport to promote our vision and mission amongst the more than a million anglers in South Africa. Eco-Care has started along our angling waters amongst a few concerned angling friends who were worried about the littering at our angling waters, the increasing of water pollution and decreasing of indigenous fish species in South Africa inland waters. Because anglers do their sport at the water it is important to educate them to look after and conserve the waters and the fish therein. The anglers are also very important as a watchdog to be the eyes and ears of any pollution spills or fish kills at our waters.

Eco-Care Trust is most probably the organisation with the most experience in organising inland fishing tournaments in South Africa. Since the first Million Rand Fishing Bonanza about 10 years ago at Hartbeespoort Dam, Eco-Care has organised several huge and successful open angling tournaments in South Africa. They helped to build the Three Species Bonanza to become the biggest inland boating tournament. The Vaaldam Bonanza and Bloemhof Bonanza are currently two of the biggest inland angling tournaments in South Africa. Both events have prizes to the value in excess of R300 000 each! Eco-Care has a team of full time and volunteer staff who together with angling clubs, such as Gauteng LTB, organises the fishing tournaments as a method of fundraising for their conservation projects as well as the development of angling as a recreational sport in South Africa.
